Exemplary

On September 12, 2022, the Tennessee Department of Education designated Dayton City Schools as one of sixteen districts to receive the highest honor of being an Exemplary District, based on factors like achievement, growth, and attendance. 
Director Trish Newsom expressed how proud she is of the teachers, staff, students, and families.  “The hard work and perseverance of our school community has paid off.  The last two years have been difficult but everyone pressed forward knowing that if we worked hard, we would overcome. We did that!  It is a great time to be a DCS Sweatbee!” 
Dayton City School is proud to be recognized at the highest level as a provider of “Exemplary” education to our community.

The Dayton City School vision is committed to the continued focus on the collaborative culture in order to facilitate the highest levels of teaching and learning, where:

  • STUDENTS

    Students demonstrate academic and behavioral responsibility through their daily dialogue, performance, and actions; participate in classroom lessons by generating questions and taking the initiative to engage and complete their work; will collaborate with their teachers to take initiative, set their own goals and track their progress; will be challenged and motivated to learn in a mutually respectful classroom setting.

  • TEACHERS

    Communicate with faculty and staff that share students in RTI, ESL, SPED, and other special areas by regular collaborative planning; consistently use provided resources as best practices to aid in effective student learning; collaborate with accessible resources to aid in student learning; challenge and encourage students to set goals and achieve them.

  • SCHOOL

    Will provide a strong, consistent leadership structure with a shared leadership team model, including a school-wide behavioral management system that promotes clarity and consistency; cultivate a student-focused culture that supports teachers and parents in collaboratively improving student achievement as well as investing in community and family engagement.

  • PARENTS

    Parents will build strong parent/school relationships through volunteering in school events and classrooms, actively participate in student achievement in order to promote school goals/communicate consistently with teachers and administration.
